Where EDUCATION, the ENVIRONMENT and FUN MEET
The Summer of a lifetime for children filled with FORESTRY EDUCATION, PERSONAL GROWTH & FUN!
SILVER LAKE CAMP, PEACHLAND BC. - Do you remember going to camp as a child? It seems that this experience generates some of the fondest (and strongest) memories in many of us and takes us back to a time when things were simpler. A time, when we disconnected from technology and reconnected with nature and the people around us. Most families around the Okanagan know about that great little camp just 15km passed downtown Peachland being well known for its Forestry Education programs and great fishing.
The camp recently experienced many changes and was at risk of not operating for the 2016 season but thanks to the hard work of the newly formed Board of Directors and volunteers from our sister camp, Evans Lake the camp is well on it's way to being back on track. New leadership at Silver Lake consists of the legacy and knowledge of some previous board members along with a group of fresh faces from the Rotary Club of Kelowna, and a long time dedicated Board Member from Evans Lake who is our new General Manager & Program Director; all with an equal level of enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring the continued success of Silver Lake Forest Education Society and Camp.
The mission of Silver Lake Camp is to continue this shared legacy of outdoor education and exploration in an environment designed to encourage meaningful and collaborative learning. An opportunity for all ages to reconnect to nature, themselves and others. Renovations and upgrades were completed this Spring & Summer and camp sessions were sold out. Additionally we had school groups from the Okanagan return to Silver Lake in 2017 with rave reviews of the camp experience; that experience was outdone in 2018 with returning 2017 schools and newly attending schools all rebooking for 2019.
Silver Lake Camp offers outdoor education and activities such as canoing, hiking, swimming, low ropes, logger sports, archery, field sports, fishing, nature walks, and games. It builds camaraderie, independence, confidence, and fun. The new lodge, accomodations for 100, and spectacular setting and amenities makes it the go-to destination in the Region.
James Kay, Past Chair of Rotary Kelowna and Silver Lake Forest Education Society says “Silver Lake Camp is a jewel in Peachland and the Okanagan, so when The Rotary Club of Kelowna learned of the plight, eight Rotarians knew we had to act, and together with other Directors and Volunteers, we are actively improving and re-establishing the Camp for years to come.”
Silver Lake Camp Needs You we are looking for organizations who want to utilize the camp. In order to continue running this education camp that has changed the lives of tens of thousands of Okanagan children we are asking for the community to come together to show their support by becoming a volunteer, sponsor, or donator of Silver Lake Camp! All contributions will go directly to the Camp. To find out more on how you can help Silver Lake Camp: website: www.silverlakecamp.net email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at 7787692442
Silver Lake and acres of surrounding forest provide ample room for campers to discover not just the wonders of nature, but the chance to learn, grow and thrive in a healthy outdoor environment.
There’s something very special about overnight camps—lessons learned here last well beyond paddling a canoe for the first time or the final campfire—they help shape young lives and inspire new goals and dreams.
Silver Lake Forestry Center has been in operation for over 48 years and is known for offering quality forest education programs and outdoor camping experiences to young people between the ages of 7 and 16 years. The Camp includes a brand new lodge with full kitchen, 5 cabins that each sleep 14-24 people, High and Low Ropes courses, paddling and hiking and a dedicated Forest Education classroom.
