SILVER LAKE CAMP, PEACHLAND BC. - Do you remember going to camp as a child? It seems that this experience generates some of the fondest (and strongest) memories in many of us and takes us back to a time when things were simpler. A time, when we disconnected from technology and reconnected with nature and the people around us. Most families around the Okanagan know about that great little camp just 15km passed downtown Peachland being well known for its Forestry Education programs and great fishing. Well you will be hearing about it for many years to come because the camp has been SAVED.
The camp recently experienced many changes and was at risk of not operating for the 2016 season but thanks to the hard work of the newly formed Board of Directors the camp is back on track. New leadership at Silver Lake consists of the legacy and knowledge of some previous board members along with a group of fresh faces from the Rotary Club of Kelowna and Alpine Consultants; all with an equal level of enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring the continued success of Silver Lake Forest Education Society and Camp.
Evans Lake Forestry Education Society has teamed up with Silver Lake Camp and will be running our summer camps during 2017 and training a new staff to continue programs into 2018 and beyond. About Evans Lake Forest Education Society: Evans Lake has been operating as a camp and outdoor education facility since 1960. The mission of Silver Lake Camp is to continue this shared legacy of outdoor education and exploration in an environment designed to encourage meaningful and collaborative learning. An opportunity for all ages to reconnect to nature, themselves and others. Renovations and upgrades were completed this Spring & Summer and camp sessions were sold out. Additionally we had school groups from the Okanagan return to Silver Lake in 2017 with rave reviews of the camp experience; reinforcing the excellent experience they had by reserving their dates for 2018.
Silver Lake Camp offers outdoor education and activities such as canoing, hiking, swimming, archery, field sports, fishing, nature walks, and games. It builds camaraderie, independence, confidence, and fun. The new lodge, camping for up to 10 families or 75 kids, and spectacular setting and amenities makes it the go-to destination in the Region.
James Kay, Chair of the Silver Lake Forest Education Society says “Silver Lake Camp is a jewel in Peachland and the Okanagan, so when The Rotary Club of Kelowna learned of the plight, eight Rotarians knew we had to act, and together with other Directors and Volunteers, we are actively improving and re-establishing the Camp for years to come.”

Silver Lake and acres of surrounding forest provide ample room for campers to discover not just the wonders of nature, but the chance to learn, grow and thrive in a healthy outdoor environment.
There’s something very special about overnight camps—lessons learned here last well beyond paddling a canoe for the first time or the final campfire—they help shape young lives and inspire new goals and dreams.
Silver Lake Forestry Center has been in operation for over 45 years and is known for offering quality forest education programs and outdoor camping experiences to young people between the ages of 7 and 16 years. The Camp includes a brand new lodge with full kitchen, 5 cabins that each sleep 14-24 people, High and Low Ropes courses, paddling and hiking and a dedicated Forest Education classroom.
